Find More Time In Your Day With These Simple Tips!

04.10.19 | Professional Development

At some point in your life, you’ve probably wished for more hours in the day. Whether it’s an especially good day you don’t want to end or one with so many projects that 24 hours doesn’t seem feasible, sometimes it would be better if time slowed down. While this is impossible, it doesn’t mean there aren’t simple tips to find more time in your day.

1. You Need to Make the Time

It doesn’t matter if you wish for more hours or a way to find more time, the reality is simple: There is a finite amount of time each day. It’s what we do with the time that makes the difference. Instead of focusing on the impossible, realize you hold the power to make or break every day. By making the time for what needs to get done, you’re regaining control.

2. Work to Be and Remain Organized

Making a to-do list once every few weeks probably won’t provide the most productive experience for you. The key to getting organized is staying organized. Set time each night to create to-do lists based on what needs to get done the following day. Identify what time of the day you work best, whether it’s morning or evening, and schedule tasks during that time. Once you’re in a productive rhythm, accomplishing your tasks will be easier.

3. Recognize What Distracts You and Set Boundaries

Whether it’s your phone while you’re at work or Netflix at night, everyone has sources of major distractions that limit their productivity. Even though you want to see what’s going on in the world or relax, it’s imperative to recognize how these breaks and distractions interrupt your productivity. Instead of using them to let you mind wander and relax, use them as rewards for completing everything on your list.

4. Stop Checking Notifications

It can feel like every email needs an instant reply and every phone call needs taken, but it’s important to remember that just because the timing is convenient for them, it isn’t necessarily good for you. Getting your work done is important and stepping away to respond to a notification can throw your entire rhythm off.

5. Learn to Say No

Some people view “no” as the worst and hardest word in the dictionary, but it doesn’t have to be that way. While saying no too much might make you seem like you aren’t a team player, sometimes it’s essential so you can focus on the projects that matter the most to you.
